Questions? We've Got Answers!

Everything you need to know about joining Homewood Rotary and making an impact

What is Homewood Rotary Club?

Homewood Rotary is a service organization of local professionals, business owners, and community leaders dedicated to making a difference through hands-on projects and philanthropy. We're part of Rotary International, a global network of 1.4 million members in over 46,000 clubs worldwide. Since 1982, we've been investing in Homewood through scholarships, youth development, and community service projects.

What causes does Homewood Rotary support?

Our focus areas include:

Education: Over $223,000 in college scholarships awarded since 2016, plus annual dictionary donations to every 3rd grader in Homewood City Schools

Youth Development: Leadership camps (RYLA), partnerships with Maranathan Academy, career fairs at Homewood High School

Health & Wellness: Polio eradication campaigns, bed builds for children in need, support for Lakeshore Foundation's adaptive sports programs

Community Enrichment: Trinity's Outreach Hub, Exceptional Foundation support, sensory-inclusive training through Culture City, and local park improvements

Is Homewood Rotary a nonprofit organization?

Yes! Homewood Rotary Club operates through the Bill Crawford Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This means donations to our scholarship fund and community projects are tax-deductible. Our club is also part of Rotary International, one of the world's most respected service organizations. We're a secular, nonpartisan organization focused entirely on humanitarian service.

How do I join Homewood Rotary?

We'd love to have you! Start by attending one of our weekly meetings as a guest—we meet every Thursday at noon at Homewood Public Library Main Auditorium (lunch provided). Visit our website or contact our Membership Director, Mary Lou Reynolds, at [email protected] for more information. There's no pressure—just come see if Rotary is a good fit for you!

Do I have to live or work in Homewood to join?

Not at all! While many of our members live or work in Homewood, we welcome anyone who shares our commitment to service. Our members come from surrounding communities throughout the Birmingham metro area. What matters most is your desire to make a positive impact and your ability to participate in our Thursday meetings and service projects.

What's the time commitment for membership?

Rotary is designed to fit into your life. Most members commit to:

Weekly meetings: Thursdays at noon (about 1 hour) at Homewood Public Library—a chance to network, hear great speakers, and stay connected

Service projects: Typically 2-4 hours per month, with flexible options (you choose what fits your schedule)

Annual fundraiser: Our St. Patrick's Day event in March (optional committee participation available year-round)

Many members find the fellowship and networking opportunities just as valuable as the service work. You'll get out what you put in!
